Week 1 : Sept. 4th-8th
"About Me Bag"
The picture above is a bag that had different items
that described me from around my house.
After sharing these items with the students,
they were sent back to their seats to participate
in the M&M activity.
M&M Activity
Above you will see different colors on the sheet of paper. Each student picked two
different colors from the M&M's and found those colors on the piece of paper.
Then, each student shared their answers with the class. This was a great opportunity
for students to learn new things about one another!
Week 2: Sept. 11th-15th
Every morning, students start off with "Number Corner".
The first part of the lesson, students go over the date,
and figure out what type of pattern is continuing through each day of
the month. Also, Mrs. Evans uses a number rack with the
students. Addition and subtraction problems are used with the number racks
to help students visually see the each math problem.
After solving the problem, students need to figure out if the number is even
or odd. The last part of the math lesson, students are figuring out what time will be next
on the clock.

Week 3: September 18th- 22nd
This week the students learned about the Constitution. For example, what it is, what
it is about, who wrote it, and when it was published. As a class, students came up
with ideas to add to their own classroom Constitution.

Week 4: September 25th-29th
Number Corner Activity:
Upbove students are using their white boards to figure out different ways to
make a math problem given by Mrs. Evans. The white boards are a great
resoure used during number corner. Students can write down their own
answers and come up with different math problems to share with the class!
Week 5: October 2nd-6th
The first picture on the upper left, explains about a specific type of poem called an Alliteration. After reading about "She Sells Seashells", as a class, we created our own poem. The poem created is on the right side of this page.
The students are focusing this week on the writing process. Up above is a chart that was made, to help guide students with their writing. As they continue to practice writing at their seats, they will look at this chart for help.
This week during Number Corner, students are focusing on the different charateristics of leaves and learning more about clocks. Students are participating in learning about collecting minutes on a clock and what the hour hand is showing.
Week 6: Oct. 9th-13th
Up above is the book "I Need My Monster". This book
was read twice this week, and the class focused on "theme".
The second picture shows different themes that the students
chose that related to the story.
→As a class, the theme was identified and students had to explain
why they chose that specific theme with evidence from the book.
→ Students are learning about words with long a sounds.

→ During writing time this week, students are focusing on
finishing their rough drafts. Students are learning how to use "Temporal Words"
in their writing. Different writing activities have been introduced this week
to organizae student's thoughts and help guide their writing.
Week 7: Oct. 16th- 20th
This week students were introduced to
the book "The Rough-Face Girl". The learning target
was on the 5 W's: who,what,where,when,and why.
Science Activity:
Students are learning about weather this week.
On the reading carpet, there was a book read
to the students explaining different parts of weather.
Then students participated in a science
activity that was about precipitation shown above.
Oct. 23rd-27th
This week students are learning about open number lines.
An anchor chart was created for students to help them look
back for guidance when practicing problems that include
open number lines.
The poem above is about a skeleton. During the afternoon, students
read this poem as a class. Afterwards, the class talked about
what happenened in the poem by discussing evidence from the poem.
This week United Way came into the classrom. A story was
read to students, following an activity. Each
student got a blue bag that had items inside of it.
Every studentrecieved two free books to take home and a snack.
Oct. 30th- Nov. 3rd
Students are still learning about wildfires.
This week as a class, went over a poem
that talks about the different things that
happen with wildfires.
This week students had a classroom party.
Students got the chance to decorate their
candy bags and watch the movie "Trolls". After students
decorated their bags, they got to eat different
snacks students brought in.
Nov. 6th-10th
- This week in the classroom students
created different trees for the weather walk.
On Thursday, students will be going throughout
the school to witness other weather walks inside
of classrooms. In Mrs. Dragish's classroom,
studentswill be exploring wildfires.

Nov. 13th-17th
This week Miss Gatta will not be in the classroom. I am working on my unit and will be back next week!
Nov. 20th-24th
This is a short week at Willard! Students ONLY have school on Monday and Tuesday. Happy Thanksgiving!
Nov. 27th-Dec.1st
Throughout this week, students are writing personal narratives on family
traditions. The left picture is different topics that students came up
with to use in their stories. The last picture on the right, is a visual model
for students to use at the beginning of their stories.
This chart helps students understand the writing process.
Each day students will be focusing on each step
until their story is completely finished.
Throughout each student's story, they will be looking for different
errors in their writing. This chart helps guide students with their
writing skills.
Dec. 4th-8th
This week during Number Corner, students are learning about
different triangles (isosceles, scalene, equilateral). The second
picture shows a type of graph that the students participated in.
Each student got to pick which book they enjoyed the most that
was read once during read aloud. Students examined the data
collected on this bar graph.
This week during math, students read the book "Jim and the
Beanstalk". Students used the teacher foot (green foot) and
giant foot (brown foot). The green foot represents 12 inches= 1ft
and the giant foot is 3 feet= 1 yard. Using each type of foot,
students were able to measure different objects around the room
using this type of measuring tool.
Students read the book "Night Tree". After reading this book,
each student got the chance to write about a time they decorated
a Christmas tree. After each student finishes writing their story,
each student will receive a Christmas book that has a copy of each
student's Christmas story they wrote. This a great opportunity to
sit down with your child and read through each student's story!
Dec. 11th-15th
This week students got the chance to write a "How-To" story.
Every student wrote about how they could catch Santa on the
night of Christmas Eve.
This is my last week at Willard for the semester. I will be back in the
classroom with everyone the beginning of January. I enjoyed
working with every student and I am going to miss all of these
cute faces! I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!
